Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed geometry (coordinate and planar) concepts, rate problems, and algebra word problem setup.. concepts she hasn't seen yet in school that we have reviewed together in past sessions. We then worked several practice problems from the test bank and of my own creation. I then had her work a science reading passage and a social science reading passage, both of which she did very well on. I found an outside SSAT practice test that I liked, and had the student start the first math section, encouraging her to work as independently as possible and reminding her of general guessing strategies to use before we reviewed the problems together."
"We did a diagnostic session. The student showed great knowledge of test-taking strategies such as process of elimination, using the answer choices, and skipping appropriately. He shows opportunities for growth with word problems in quantitative, and author's tone and purpose in the reading section. In future sessions, we will focus on the verbal section (synonyms), common vocabulary and roots."
"I had the students finish their individual assignments I gave them. Student 1 seems to be improving on his ability to solve for variables. Student 2 has been struggling a bit to find antonyms and synonyms for his vocabulary, so I assisted him by giving hints so that he could figure it out himself. We also performed a mock section of the math portion. I instructed them to implement the new method of just answering questions they were certain about. I plan to grade them and act accordingly, before the next session."
