Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This was the last meeting that the student and I will have before she takes the ACT. I wanted to work on her weakest section, math, in preparation. We talked about where her strengths and weaknesses lie on the test and addressed some tricks for the writing part. I think she could score pretty well on this test if she remembers to trust herself and the answers that she gets."
"The student has an assessment tomorrow on graphing of trig functions and proving trig identities, so we did practice problems on those concepts. The graphing went quite well."
"TOPICS: Function Composition and Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing Compositions (Section 2.4). SUMMARY: the student showed improvement in his understanding of how functions work and how to solve functions when given your domain. Once he fully understood this concept he was able to apply it to the specific concepts mentioned in 2.4. He was quick to notice patterns in composition of function problems and seemed to understand how to work and solve these type of problems. He was able to add, subtract, multiply, and divide functions without much difficulty."
"We continued working to prepare the student for her exam on Thursday. We covered limit theorem of derivatives, power rule for derivatives, and trig derivatives. We also started to go over the review her teacher provided."
"The student has another paper due, so we went over his topic, the main points he wants to cover, and putting together the outline so he can begin his first rough draft. I think the experience of doing his previous paper on the NRA, and how we put this together, gave him the guidelines on starting this paper. His outline and thoughts set him up nicely to put together a solid first draft. He must get me his rough draft, or at least most of it, by Monday, and then we have another session set up for November 18. So far, he is much more initially prepared on this paper, and he took the initiative to start the paper, which is very positive."
"The student showed real improvements in the use of past tenses that we have been practicing for the last few lessons. This is very positive."
