"The student and I worked on a creative writing assignment that was due tomorrow. She had to create a story where she demonstrated standing up for yourself. Once she had the story written, she had to write a poem, song, comic book, etc.,. She chose to do a comic book. We then worked on ordering the sequence of events and illustrating the comic."
"Today the student and I went over her homework problems. Then we started going through the practice SSAT test in the book sent to her. We started with the first practice test, and will eventually go through all three that are in the book. For homework, I assigned her #12-25 in the first math section of the first practice test. I also told her to read over chapters 9-13 in the book very carefully, as those are the math chapters."
"Today we focused almost entirely on the student's upcoming biology exam. We reviewed the parts of a flower, the biological processes of photosynthesis, and the structure and terminology related to said processes. He has an excellent grasp of this material. We then reorganized his social studies material and reviewed for final submission."
"Worked with the student on higher-level analysis for a synthesis essay in his English class. We talked about going beyond the basics of character- or book-based structure and using the analytic synthesis as structural framework. Great session."
"The student and I worked on chemistry. He was preparing for a redox test. He practiced finding oxidation numbers, identifying oxidation vs. reduction reactions, and balancing half reactions. He did a great job."
"In this session, we continued to look over the student's personal finance packet. The topics covered were investment/saving plans like 401(k), mutual funds, and stocks. We discussed the rewards and risks of each. We also discussed homeownership vs. renting and the benefits of each. This included researching and calculating mortgage and mortgage interest."
