Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we met later than usual, since the student had a game. We went for 1.5 hours, though. Our focus was science, mainly outline building and studying the parts of a cell. We also did a bit of math homework, still on inequalities. Then, we did a bit of Spanish on a brief exchange he wrote with a partner."
"Today's session was great! Since he had difficulty with his homework last week, we reviewed how to find the missing measurement of an angle when part of the angle's measurement is given. Next, I introduced him to integers. After going through the rules of adding positive and negative integers and working on a few examples, he said that he was confused. We reviewed the rules of adding integers and went through a few problems using a number line to show how the problem is solved. As we continued doing problems, he began to grasp the rules of adding integers. We also worked on multiplication flash card and discussed how to break a multiplication sentence apart to find the product. He seems to do better one-on-one and seems to be enjoying my help. Despite his learning disability, he continues to excel in learning. He's also getting better at multiplying. For homework, he will study multiplication cards."
"We continued working through the student's math book. We're moving more quickly now, and her confidence has grown significantly! She tells me the homework was easy, which is always a great sign. I'm able to assign her more work, which is helping us get through the chapters at a better pace."
"We covered addition, subtraction, and multiplication of exponents and negative integers. The student struggles with the rules for negative integers. She worked very hard. She is grasping the concept, but it may take another time of practice for mastery. I left her with two websites with games that will help her quickly work with negative numbers. She received her first 100% on a math test for the year after our lessons."
"We covered chapter book reading and expanded form. The student was struggling most with slowing down and reading the words carefully. His attitude was good. Overall the session was good!"
"We covered puzzle-type problems that were process-oriented in nature. We worked on homework problems as well as extra practice for the student's upcoming test. She made serious improvements from start to finish, and I have no doubt that she will ace her exam!"
