Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, the student and I went over some of his homework and reviewed some of his previous sections. This included decimal arithmetic, significant figures, supplementary and complementary angles, finding missing angles, and getting algebraic expressions from word problems. I left him some practice problems to work on before our next session. Overall, I think the session went well. He is not uncomfortable asking questions, and he is focused when I ask him to do something."
"Today, the student and I covered more graphing problems. Specifically, we went over finding the area under the curve and manipulating the boundaries on the same graphs to see how the area varies depending on the problem statement. She did a good job of finding the integrals. The visualization of the area had been challenging for her, but she made progress today. She also had questions on antiderivatives of trigonometric functions. We practiced those and reviewed u-substitution since this will be very important for future antiderivatives. Next week, we will continue to practice u-substitution. She has had several of these types of problems on her homework so it is a concept she needs to master. She is making progress in this area."
"We reviewed 6 review Algebra 1 assessment exam problems, and then we continued to review the rest of the Algebra 1 review test. I assigned the student some flashcard work, and I will email and text her an assignment on Wednesday evening."
"To start our session, we went over the problems I assigned our last session, involving word problems and exponents. We then went back to the student's workbook to study CC concepts centering around geometry. She is showing great progress and understanding of concepts. I am confident she will do well on her test in April."
"During this session, I helped the student stay on task with his homework and helped him when he needed my assistance. He also completed a lab assignment, and I advised him to write more specific and relevant answers for each question."
"The student got her quiz back and got an 84%! The errors made were related to not labeling her work, but she understands the material. Today, we went over slopes and conversions. She grasped slopes very well, but when it came to conversions, she struggled a bit. I believe that section will take more practice and repetition, and we will continue to work on it. We wrapped up the session by doing a quick coordinate "game" that challenged her to identify points to graph. She is to do about a half hour of the games tomorrow and her homework until we meet again on Thursday. I'm proud of her success on her quiz."
