We reviewed the imperfect and preterite. She was struggling with vocabulary the most yesterday, but I did challenge her with some new vocabulary. We reviewed the student's composition for her conversation class. I encouraged her to try doing next week's composition on her own before resorting to an online translator and encouraged her that she DOES know what she's doing! She just needs some confidence in her own great abilities. We also went over her homework for her grammar class this week, again hitting on past vs. present subjunctive and making sure that the independent and dependent clauses match in each sentence. We also agreed that for next week, we'll go over the previous week's homework again, as she mentioned that often when the teacher goes over the homework in class, she is still confused about why the answer is what it is. For the upcoming week's homework, we'll review only those questions she has concerns about, leaving time for reviewing last week's homework.

We reviewed the vocabulary taught in the previous class and introduced the days of the week. We also worked on developing her fluency by repeating the sentences on the story about Dora the Explorer. She can count up to 50 now, and we also practiced phrases with "me gusta" and "comer". For homework, she will review all this material, as well as the days of the week.

We spent a lot of time practicing how to describe the location of an object (aqui, alli, and alla), learning how to ask where an object was, practicing common classroom objects vocabulary, and working on the differences between ser and estar. As always, the student was pretty excited to learn something new and is always wanting to learn more practical communication skills. Her homework was to study for a test that I am going to write up and give to her on Wednesday.
