Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student is preparing for the SAT which she is taking soon. We went over reading comprehension using the prep guide, and addressed the types of questions she will encounter, as well as approaches to narrowing down multiple choice options and skimming the text efficiently. She demonstrates very strong reading skills and generally processes math problems very quickly. We discussed the scoring of the test and the types of math questions she may want to avoid answering on the SAT, while also making some headway with demystifying some of the geometry examples. We agreed that she would complete a practice test tonight which we will go over during tomorrow's lesson."
"The student took her first SAT on Saturday, so we spent some time evaluating her progress and figuring out a good study plan. We decided to concentrate on a general critical reading strategy that can be used for both the SAT and ACT. After she retrieves her scores, we will have more info."
"After doing a vocabulary quiz, we reviewed all of the student's recent homework assignments. This included going over several short articles that I had her read to practice critical reading. For each, she wrote a couple of key words to next to each paragraph and then wrote the main idea and tone at the end. We then went over some strategies that might help her work through passages more quickly as we reviewed her written notes for each passage. We then reviewed several questions she had on a partial practice test that she did since our last session. For our next session, she is going to review all of the vocabulary we've done thus far and do some grammar in-context practice that I provided her."
