Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I gave the student some pointers on her essay sample which I had taken home to review. Overall she did a great job of structuring, demonstrating a command of high level vocabulary. She also presented a clear thesis, which she proceeded to defend with examples and finally restated in her conclusion. We reviewed the score for her most recently completed practice test, which already shows improvement that we hope to build upon in time for the real SAT this coming weekend. We spent the rest of the lesson focusing on sample test questions involving vocabulary and geometry. She is developing more confidence in guessing or calculating strong answers."
"The student and I discussed passage-based reading question types. Some areas that we will have to pay close attention to are assumption questions and vocabulary in context questions. We also completed math problems together. We will focus on honing skills in combination/permutation problems. I will read the essay that the student completed for homework and bring back notes. She also has additional homework this week."
"The student and I began the last portion of test prep: the persuasive essay. We began by making a T-chart to organize her pros and cons to determine which side of the issue she would argue. Then, we looked at sample persuasive essays to pick out the various aspects: hook, argument, counter argument, and conclusion. She was in a great mood and ready to work so she was open to learning and did a pretty great job on her first try!"
