How can a tutor help your child master the SSAT?

We can find your child a tutor in Redmond, WA, who is as adept at taking the SSAT as they are at teaching it. Your child's tutor could do more than just prepare them with study materials, they'll manage every aspect of their preparation. They'll set up a study schedule that has your child peaking on test day, without burning out from over-studying, a common issue among students eager to do well.

The Varsity Tutors educational directors can find your child an expert SSAT tutor in Redmond to cater to their specific needs. The tutor will start by assessing your child's knowledge in regards to the subjects on the SSAT, which has a quantitative section, a verbal reasoning section, a reading comprehension section, and an unscored essay, paying particular attention to their strong and weak points. After evaluating your child's abilities, the tutor can build them a personalized study plan that aims to try to improve their overall knowledge in every subject and eliminates any weaknesses. Your child could receive immediate feedback on what they're doing right and wrong in every tutoring session, which could keep them on the right track for SSAT success.

We covered SSAT verbal practice. We looked at flashcards and practice tests. I gave the student links to websites with practice quizzes and games. He was struggling with synonyms for words as English is not his first language. I think the best course of action for him is to do practice tests and quizzes/games online to be exposed to as many words as possible before he takes the SSAT. He said he is confident in the other sections of the test (math, reading comprehension, analogies), but we discussed his strategies for test-taking in each section so that he can use the test time efficiently.

This was our last session. We went over math, verbal and reading. I showed him a test prep website so he can continue to take practice tests and focus on his weak areas. I also went over the strategies we came up with so that he can continue to use them on the test. I think he will do well and that as long as he carefully reads the questions!

We began with a review of vocabulary words. We discussed text features using a passage about zombies and brains (mostly brains). The student constructed questions related to the text. We next examined a mid level SSAT nonfiction reading passage. It was difficult but he stuck with it. We finished with assorted grade-level math word problems.
