Session Summaries by Latin Tutors

Redmond, WA Latin tutoring
A good final session with the student.  We just started the second half of the material and will miss going over this with him as we began series and similar subjects that are very different from what we covered the first half of the year. I am sure the student will be able to great with it though, and I will miss working with him.

The student and I reviewed his Chapter 18 homework and went over some problems.  Along with a summary of key topics such as magnetic fields, current of a wire, and electric fields of particles, I shared the process of solving problems that he can apply to most physics applications he will come across in the future.  We'll cover Chapter 19 material in our next session.

I gave the student a practice test on all the material she covered this semester in her math class and we reviewed the answers. She made some simple mistakes, but overall she seems to have a good grasp on the material. She had trouble with one of the word problems so we reviewed it and I gave her another problem that was similar. She got it right so I have confidence that she understands all the material and will do well on her final as long as she minimizes minor mistakes.

The student read a bit more responsively. He clearly loves to count and this can be applied to spelling and reading as well. The more he reads aloud and realizes that sounding out words is a fun challenge, the more he will push himself.

This lesson, the student and I began by reviewing chapter 1 and 2 vocab. He has a good grasp of chapter 1 vocab. Continue reviewing "errare", "salvere" and "monere." In terms of chapter 2, continue reviewing this vocab as much as possible, especially the second half of the list (on page 17). Next, we worked on practice sentences. We worked with our first declensional ending in our final sentence: dative. We then went over the rest of the declensional endings. He took notes on a separate sheet because he could not find his notebook. Stapling this in the notebook would be helpful. After the hour, we talked a bit about Caesar and looked up some characters from Scooby Doo.
