Reading Tutoring review by Hesley in San Marcos, TX
The student and I worked more on carrying/borrowing numbers and solving the same math problem in many different ways. He is working on mental math when the numbers become much larger. Additionally, I introduced him to the structure of a book report and he wrote his very first one.

Reading Tutoring review by Ruth in San Marcos, TX
The student showed me the two essays she wrote for homework. I noted how her description and vocabulary has improved, but she still needs to create more of a narrative arc. For homework, I asked her to write an autobiographical story, keeping this in mind.

In this session, we continued work on a written response to the magazine article "Why the Future Doesn't Need Us," by Bill Joy. In this session, we focused on construction of the conclusion paragraph and on refining the thesis statement in light of changes in evidence gathered for the essay. The student has made progress in the construction of a thesis statement as well as construction of body paragraphs.

The student did great on his homework, and wonderful on his spelling test. He has two homework assignments: to edit and re-write, on a computer, his writing exercise from today, and to complete a matching, tense assignment.

Reading Tutoring review by Chelisa in San Marcos, TX
I talked with the students about their expectations with tutoring, and their feelings on the subject matter. Student A felt very confident with his reading but Student B was more reserved, and good at pointing out his mistakes and weaknesses. We read a sample story together. With Student A, we finished and began to answer questions. Student B was very good with comprehension and summarizing, as well as finding evidence of his points, but struggled a bit with character traits and motivation (we will continue working on it). The story I bought for Student B was a bit difficult, but we went over some vocabulary, and talked more about his interests, types of stories he likes and why, and some basic concepts. I asked them both to bring any school work and a book of their own if they would like to next session.
