Reading Tutoring review by Kimberly in Brockton, MA
I focused mainly on preparing him for his quiz on "Lamb to the Slaughter" by Roald Dahl. We went over irony, and the story elements present in the short story. We also went over his American History readings, and he got a head start on studying for his Italian test. He is a bright kid, and he seems to be getting more comfortable speaking up.

Reading Tutoring review by Colette in Brockton, MA
The student and I discussed an O. Henry story he had read in class and that he expects to be quizzed on next week. We worked on how to make inferences from context and how to support an answer to a question with evidence from the text. He is able to explain the main plot points of a story, but he needs to practice supporting his answers and elaborating his answers. We used the rest of our time practicing chunking to increase reading fluency.

Reading Tutoring review by Rachel in Brockton, MA
The student had a great reading day and finished Little Bear's Friend pretty quickly. He did a great job summarizing his reading for his homework log as well. I'm going to look into techniques to help him focus when he gets tired and/or distracted.

Reading Tutoring review by Nancy in Brockton, MA
The student is super student; very agreeable and adorable. His mother wants the student to be top-knotch in his reading and math, but still wants him to enjoy the perks of public school. He loves school. He knows a lot of material for kinder; it may be because he is an older student or probably because his parents work with him. The mother will be getting the curriculum for his present school, so we can just get started towards reaching the first grade level. The nanny was very accommodating in taking the other child into the back, and we had plenty of room to work.

The student and I started talking about his review test and spelling test at school this week. We played a word game on his tablet, then did a reading comprehension exercise about bald eagles. He is supposed to read to the end of Pg. 5 in Diary of a Simple Kid before Wednesday.

Reading Tutoring review by Veronica in Brockton, MA
We reviewed the student's list of spelling words for the week, played blending sound bingo, and read from his baseball and Magic Tree House books. He was unusually shaky with his spelling words, but he did very well with the Magic Tree House book. It seems like our work on vowels is really sticking with him!
