Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student completed the challenging comprehension task we've worked on. She did very well and read through the paragraph with more fluidity and confidence on the new words. For the final question, she had to not only list the relevant animals, but explain how they were relevant. She did very well with this task. We worked on another verb task, as well as rules for using "a"ù versus "an."ù Verbs seem to be relatively easy for her. We will continue to work on the latter. The last 15 minutes was spent reading aloud from a level 3 reader book. She did very well!"
"We went over phonics and reading comprehension. I provided some reading techniques and wrote out some notes for the student to take home and review. He completed two reading homework assignments."
"Today the student started by reading two books that she had brought home from school. We then went on to play a card game with letters and letter combinations where we had increasing numbers of cards in each hand. The object was to use the letters, which each had a point value, to make words and score the highest number of points. We worked together to find words in her cards. She was focused throughout the game."
"During our session, the student and I reviewed reading comprehension and determining the main idea. She did fairly well with this. She was able to read a passage and answer questions from a previously taken test. Again, I noticed an improvement in her reading and writing. She seemed more confident and comfortable asking questions when she did not have a clear understanding. We will continue to work on this in subsequent sessions. I encouraged her to correct and complete the questions she missed on her test. She was also encouraged to continue to read aloud and note any words or concepts she did not understand. As always, she had a great attitude and is a joy to work with."
"During this final session prior to the test, the student and I went over a few more of his provided reading passages from summer school and emphasized the need to discover the evidence within the passage to answer the questions correctly. He continued to get a majority of the questions correct. He continues to do well, and I am confident he will do well on his test. I informed him and his mom of some test-taking strategies and some relaxation techniques he can engage in prior and during the test in order to keep himself focused."
"During this session focused on reading, I brought her a new book about hamsters. She has a pet hamster, and the book is more advanced and technical than a lot of the fiction books she reads. However, she loves it! We read a page together during the session and I told her she can continue to work on it with her mom, and a follow-up email let me know that the hamster book was very popular."
