Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered section 1.3, covering graphing of different functions including sine, cosine, reciprocal, logarithmic, quadratic, cubic and logistic functions."
"The student brought in her low-score tests today. As I looked them over, I discovered that she could have increased her score greatly simply by scheduling her tests in a longer time slot, which would have allowed her more time to check her work; she also left a few questions with no work shown, which erased any chance of partial credit on those problems. Tonight, we reviewed exponent properties in preparation for a unit on exponential and logarithmic functions."
"This student and I had our first session today. His mom met me at the door and was present in the home for the entirety of our session. He and I covered the following: 1. Trigonometric identities We reviewed the relationships between sin, cos, tan and how to manipulate those relationships to solve equations 2. Unit circle We reviewed the 4 quadrants and which trig functions would be positive in each quadrant. We also learned how to plot radian angles and to convert easily between degrees and radians. We learned how to locate each triangle in a quadrant depending on its sign and value. 3. We learned how to solve trigonometric equations by identifying: - difference of squares - expressions involving squares - 30-60-90 triangles and relationships between sides and predicting angles - 45-45-90 triangles using same methods 4. We reviewed inverse trig functions: secant, cosecant, cotangent. I left him with the following: - Putting core formulas and relationships on note cards - practice, practice, practice I found him to be enthusiastic, and smart and a quick learner."
"We finished a review of the student's homework. She had different geometry questions with finding areas and volumes. She also had a unit conversion question. We also talked about properties of functions and how to find points. Finally, we spent time going over some SAT questions and how to solve them quickly."
"We covered the student's review packet for unit 7 discussing domain and range, exponent simplification, and word problems involving systems of equations. He came prepared with questions, which we covered in detail. He continue to get tripped up by the word problems we covered last time but finally felt like he made a breakthrough today. We plan on having a session in two weeks."
"We worked on the student's review problems on arithmetic sequences, geometric sequences, and how to sum those sequences. We also used the Binomial Theorem to find coefficients from binomial expansion, and I helped him practice on proving formulas by mathematical induction."
