Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"In this session, we read chapter 7 together, focusing on purpose for reading by developing reading questions. We then worked on sight words and parts of speech with a game."
"We worked on the student's words for the week. She did very well. She is working on exception words with long vowel sounds. She then completed worksheets on compound words, homophones and we introduced contractions. She did very well on learning about verbs today! She picked concepts up very quickly and was also able to demonstrate retention of identifying nouns. We finished by reading one of her books to page 16. She read more accurately and faster (better word recognition) than the first time she read this book at a session a couple weeks ago."
"Phonics practice, read a book, practiced nonsense words with short vowels and some long vowel pairs, writing practice."
"During our session today, the student and I reviewed using context clues to determine the meaning of a word. This is an area we will continue to work on in our next session, but she did much better this session than before. She is still having a little difficulty determining the meaning of a word that may have multiple meanings. She always has a great attitude and is a joy to work with. Once she is comfortable, confident, and consistent with words with multiple meanings, we will move to prefixes. Overall, we had a good session."
"During our tutoring session, the student and I went over his hw assignment. He was tasked with writing an essay about a certain topic. We reviewed the essay together and discussed ways in which he can improve it. He did very well with the grammar in his essay. We still need to focus on essay structure. Specifically, we will focus our next few lessons on how to structure paragraphs so that they each focus on one idea relevant to the topic of the essay."
"During the session, the student and I reviewed his homework from last week and introduced a new concept for review as a part of his growing skills as a reader. We looked at the different points-of-view in literature to help him understand POV questions presented on his reading practice assignments I provided to him. Based off of his homework and in-session practice, he continues to need guidance in understanding the main idea of stories, but may be better at informational texts and other pieces of literature. We will work on this during our next session."
