Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I covered limits and derivatives. He was having a hard time with some trig and precalculus concepts (i.e unit circle), so we went back and went over them prior to moving forward. The student was very participative and wanted to learn the material. The entire session was spent going back and then forward; few strategies/skills were included. I left the student with 4 practice problems which I will check on Monday. He showed me the old test that he scored low on and began re-working the incorrect answers. We were able to finish 6 of them before time expired."
"The student and I covered related rates, problems from some of her quizzes, and differentiation of logarithmic and exponential functions. The student continues to improve, and has a really positive attitude about learning as much as she can in this course. She is also spending time trying to get over mental roadblocks in her algebra skills."
"The student and I did problems involving the speed, distance, and time it takes two people to meet when they leave at different times. We also covered equations and relations involving volume, found equations of functions given two points on the graph, worked on proportionality problems, and did an MPG problem. She struggled the most with word problems."
"The student and I discussed many calculus like notions. We reviewed multiplying out polynomials and identifying leading terms, leading coefficients, and constant terms. We later reviewed matching graphs with equations: first finding the x and y intercepts and going from there. We then reviewed all of this in context of word problems."
"The student and I focused on using limit laws this week. We went through practice problems which seemed to be simple for her, but we also went over a critical thinking problem that took more time and lead us to learn about the topic of what to do when getting an indeterminate. We looked into this in depth and did examples on exactly how to handle this when she came across one. This was more of preteaching, but I think it will really benefit her to have a head start on understanding this."
"The student and I had a good session. She had missed some material last week, so she had some questions on that material. She also had a list of topics that would be covered on the quiz this week. Overall, she's doing well in the class, and is much more comfortable with her teacher this year compared to last year. Good luck!"
