Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on exponential growth and decay, Gaussian elimination for solving systems of equations, and began a review of trig. The student and I discussed the "testing out" situation with Algebra II/Precalc and/or Survey Business Calculus. He hasn't been given definite information on whether he has to test out of Algebra II. So, instead of guessing what he might need to know from Algebra, we agreed to concentrate on Survey of Calculus, reviewing Algebra as needed."
"We worked on fractions, decimals, multiplication fluency, punctuation, science passage comprehension, and placing states on maps. The student did well today! The student had a great attitude. I have written the days of each assignment on his workbook. Next session I'm going to bring the titles of 3 books (with a synopsis of each) for him to choose that we can read together to increase his discussion skills."
"We worked on math today. The concepts involved similar triangles and the Pythagorean Theorem. The student did very well with tracking with the concepts. We also began to review some of her computer assignment."
"We worked on more of the analytical word problems with strategies on how to attack them and eliminate other answers. I provided more practice problems. There are a lot of gaps in the student's basic math knowledge, such as multiplication, division by hand, and not using the calculator. I used specific examples and will provide more practice problems. He will have to review the methods, as he is not allowed to use a calculator during the test. He mentioned test anxiety as well, so I am working with him on the basics to feel more comfortable. We will work on some basics next session. He is trying very hard but I am a little worried about his base knowledge. We will continue to work on this next session."
"We worked on multiplying, factoring, ordering, and naming polynomials. The student always maintains a teachable attitude even when she's not understanding a concept. We reviewed test-taking strategies while going through the lessons. She was able explain how to solve the questions."
"We worked on place value, multiplication, and division. I had the student make a place value chart, and we worked on problems solving what number underlined was in the tens or hundreds chart. She was very cooperative. I included strategies to help her memorize the place value chart."
