Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"This session we tried to focus on establishing working methods. We worked on math, which encompassed some basic statistics. One of the challenges was figuring out how to work with lists of numbers for data analysis with only a scientific calculator and not a graphing calculator. We discovered that there are indeed list functions that the student could use to make it easier to do these problems (and faster too). I look forward to working with him further to really see where we need focus in order to improve."
"Today I continued to work with the student on how to find the area under the curve using left and right hand endpoints. We also talked about how to find the sigma notation for each of these ways. We will continue to work on her assignments during our next session."
"Today the student and I reviewed the second part of the functions unit. We reviewed the notion of a function, function's domain, and function's range. We reviewed some algebraic and some geometric examples. They wrote the unit test for the entire functions unit. Then we moved on to the unit discussing the use of trig functions to evaluate real world problems. They completed the first quiz in that unit as well. They are well versed in trig functions, definitions of functions, relations, domains, and ranges."
"Today the student and I went over his test review. We covered concepts such as finding the domain of a function, differentiating between increasing and decreasing functions, and finding the limit definition derivative. He was focused and motivated throughout the session."
"Today the student and I went over new material in precalc; specifically, solving for functions of varying degree measures, synthetic and long division of polynomials, and direct variation. Next week, we will meet to review for her quiz."
"Today the student and I went over some basic concepts with functions, including the domain and range, and where the function increases and decreases. We also did some practice using the graphing calculator, showing how to graph functions, and change the window view to see the graph better."
