Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed geometry chapter one. She seemed to really master all of the concepts including midpoint and distance formula, constructions, line segments, perpendicular bisector and the basics about angles/protractors. We were able to use our time to just go over these concepts one last time before she might see them in school."
"The student and I reviewed his homework. We looked at and discussed the class textbook. We then looked back at some of the algebra material that he felt that he struggled with. We plan to review algebra during our future sessions and look at some parts of geometry as the year progresses. He will let me know if he needs geometry assistance, and we will work on algebra otherwise."
"The student and I reviewed radicals for the first hour of our session tonight, a topic he said he wasn't very familiar with that will be covered on his upper level assessment exam. I started by explaining the rules for performing operations with radical terms; we then moved on to employing these rules to simplify radical expressions. The last half hour of the session we spent completing the practice assessment exam's math & quantitative reasoning sections. He is beginning to feel more comfortable with questions that relate to several of the topics that we've been working on (independent/dependent probability, percentage increase/decrease, & basic statistics). However, he often still struggles to answer many of these questions without hints or prompts from me. We'll continue to work on his ability to quickly read & comprehend these questions, and then decide on the correct approach."
"The student and I reviewed section 2-6. It covers a lot of material that is harder than the previous sections. He's understanding the steps of the problems as I go through them with him, but is struggling a bit with solving some completely on his own. We'll return to some of them to make sure it's sticking."
"The student and I reviewed several quizzes. She didn't know what bisection is, and needed to be reminded of complementary and supplementary angles. We went over these things in detail. Overall, I think she's caught up."
"The student and I reviewed the corrections on his test on combinations, permutations, counting principle, and probability. There were some calculation errors, but he understood the process, however he misunderstood some of the problems which is why he got them wrong. After reviewing this test, we did a review packet for the test on the next chapter. Concepts included solving for a variable in terms of a variable, evaluating expressions, solving for a variable with absolute value, simplifying expressions, solving word problems involving distance and consecutive integers, and word problems involving dimensional analysis. We will have one more session before the test."
