Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, the student worked on her IXL. She was struggling with the multiplication. I had to review with her how to do multiplication with double digit numbers. I also noticed that she was not very strong with her basic times tables. She never got discouraged though! Which was great. By the end, she was able to repeat all of be steps needed to complete the problems. Going forward, I would want to review multiplication with her (both basic times tables and two digit multiplication). I think that it is an important building block so that she can be confident and strong in math. She did really great with her reading and comprehension questions. She needed very little redirecting. Overall, she really is a joy to work with. She's very positive and works hard."
"Today, we covered division and checking the answers through multiplication. This was done by doing his homework of 15 problems. He showed me his most current quiz, where he scored a 14.5 of 15. He also showed me a math minute test of multiplication where he did 12 of the 49 problems in a minute. We reviewed the sheet, going over the problems in a minute. He scored 16 questions consistently. When we went through all 49 problems, he was able to complete the entire sheet in 3 minutes 41 seconds. The second time we went through it, (10 minutes later) he was able to complete it in 3 minutes 9 seconds. He was encouraged to continue practicing on his own. A win for Philip was that his writing has become more legible, which he is now being graded on, and the proficiency of his division and multiplication skills."
"Today, we covered long division and began his new spelling words. He knows how to do long division but needs a good amount of practice. His biggest deterrence is his weakness memorizing multiplication factors. We will be working on factors more and more going forward because they will help with division and fractions also. He wrote word pyramids spelling out all of his new spelling words and practiced pronouncing each word correctly and began defining the words."
"Today, we covered long division and multiplication. The student isn't struggling too bad on the concepts. She should study solving the problem out completely in long division and begin practicing double checking her work in multiplication to ensure she has the right answer. I will be emailing her some practice worksheets to study until the next session. She is very bright and will do very well with practice."
"Today, we focused on division. We completed dividing 4 and 5 digit numbers by 1 and 2 digit numbers. The student had a challenge where to place the number at the top and when to add a zero in the problem. Then, we continued with learning math facts by playing a dice games. This helps the student learn math facts until they are automatic. This will help him as he progresses in math."
"Today, we mainly focused on learning how to calculate elapsed time. We did this by using the "Mountains, Hills, and Rocks" method. The student was able to grasp it quite quickly and is quite comfortable with the methods. I have given her some homework practicing it."
