The student and I worked on division word problems that he had for homework. We also worked on an article about the Boston Tea Party. We used the stop and jot strategy. He read a paragraph, and then wrote a word or phrase about what the paragraph was about. He was able to answer the questions without referring to the article much and knew where those answers would be within the article by using his notes. He and I worked on his reading fluency by having him read aloud from his level 3 book. We concluded by having him play a game that reinforced various vocabulary concepts.

This was my last session with the student. First, he and I went over the synonyms and antonyms portion of his vocabulary unit. After completing this, his new tutor came in to be brought up to speed on what she will have to help him with. We began studying for a key terms quiz over WWII that he will take on Monday. We then discussed the importance of key figures of WWII, which he will have to know for a quiz on Tuesday. It was an enormous privilege working with him for so many weeks, and I wish him all the best in his pursuits.

The student continues to diligently work in her classes although she still needs guidance as to what degree or depth she must be in command of the material. To this end, the student and I worked on her vocabulary list for Social Studies with me asking her either to give me the definition of a given term or the term when given a particular definition. Additionally, we were able to complete her math homework which was aimed at introducing the student to using slope-intercept form equations in addition to graphing these equations and identifying, slope, x-intercepts and y=intercept. We will continue to work to ensure that the student not only feels confident about the material but ensure that she continues to improve her marks across all of her courses.

Today I started with the student as we discussed study skills. I explained to her the importance of proper note taking, along with good time management skills. I explained to her how making the most of time will make her more productive and have time to do all of the things that she wishes. We concluded by going over all of the different areas of science and how they will be very important in just about anything she aspires to accomplish. I then worked with the other student on his science project. I will cover DNA and RNA , which happens to be an area of my expertise. I went over the differences between the two, showed a couple of videos that demonstrated how the DNA is packaged in the cells, how RNA is produced as a copy of one of the strands of DNA and how DNA replicates itself in every cell of the body. Tomorrow will be math day for both students.
