Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I went over his Syllabus again but made an in-depth plan and organizational plot of getting the key papers done. Also we came up with some ideas for the major essays in both of the History classes. I had the student write down dates on which we are solely going to work on papers and test. Overall I think the student is learning to use his planner and become more organized. We will continue working on this as the semester goes on."
"In this session, we focused heavily on the reading section of the ACT, which is the student's weakest section. The majority of our time was spent doing practice sections with the idea of reading with a purpose (finding main ideas, supporting arguments, etc.). We also spent some time doing English."
"The student had prepared an essay and had a clearly defined thesis statement along with some strong quotes to support her argument."
"Student 1: strong vocabulary, can add and subtract with and without regrouping, can multiply one digit numbers, can divide with and without remainders, and is working on food webs in science. We will work on vowel sounds in order to improve decoding, as well as math, vocabulary, and test prep strategies for the tests. Student 2: excellent decoding and vocabulary, can add and subtract with and without regrouping, can multiply one digit numbers, can divide without remainders using manipulatives, and is also working on food webs in science. We will work on multiplication and division as well as test prep strategies for the tests."
"We covered area using the disk and washer methods. Over the course of the session, it was obvious that he was grasping the concept more and more."
"Today we went over the different cases and when they are used (nominative, accusative, dative, and genitive) as well as reviewing the things we went over last session, since it has been two weeks since we last met. The student is doing very well! Next week I let him know that I will be speaking mostly in German, and if he needs me to repeat what I said that he must ask me to do so in German. I sent him worksheets to look over as well as some recommendations on movies to watch with lots of German dialogue, and he said he would be trying to get a German newspaper to read over."
