Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went over her classwork on simplifying square roots that involve variables. She had trouble with this, but got much better with practice. Then we went through her homework on factoring. She had a lot of difficulty with this, but we wrote down the steps she needed to take, and she was able to follow her notes to do the problem."
"We covered power of point calculations as well as tangent calculations. She has a test Friday so we reviewed all the rules for calculating angles generated from inscribed points. One step problems she can solve 100% of the time but she seems to get overwhelmed when the instructor asks her to solve for multiple variables. We are going to work on breaking down multi step problems to help her solve these without panicking."
"Reviewed previous material for the student's upcoming quiz dealing with solving quadratic equations in standard and vertex form and identifying trends/intercepts/vertex for graphed functions. Additionally, we covered general rules to quickly identify the shape of a function and how it is modified based on its coefficients. She is able to easily do the actual math required for a problem. She just has to get more confident in identifying what steps are necessary to solve a given problem and identifying what a question is asking if it is not given in a familiar form. Overall, she is very capable of doing well in the class. She asks the right questions and tries to identify trends. This is indicative of understanding, she just needs more iteration and practice of problems to minimize little errors."
"We covered concepts in basic geometry and worked on word problems in preparation for a standardized test. Since the student hasn't yet gone over these topics in depth in class, we focused mostly on geometry problems. I left him with an assignment to make and review flash cards for concepts in geometry."
"The student has a test tomorrow on circles and theorems regarding circles. We studied for the test and worked through problems. He knew about half of the theorems from memory before we started. He should have most of them down now. During the session, his dad came in and expressed concern for his overall grade in the class. He thinks it may be coming from the homework check grade. The student and I discussed this and he is supposed to gather all of his tests, quizzes, homework, and notes for next week so we can better organize them for his in class homework checks."
"The student had to take his final. We spent the first two hours going over the last couple chapters of his course and writing cheat sheets (specifically the proofs took a long time). We then went over all of the sheets together and then he re-took all of the chapter exams. The last hour of the session was spent with me proctoring the first section of his final exam."
