Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today the student and I discussed Phonemic Awareness, phonics, and reading comprehension. The student worked hard with sight words, and phonics. The student was engaged in the material, and seemed to enjoyed reading. I taught the student to use context clues, like pictures and their background knowledge to figure out difficult words."
"The student and I read a nonfiction story about the White House and reviewed one about Chinese New Year Celebrations. We answered questions about the passages. Her reading has improved. The more comfortable she gets reading, the better her comprehension will be. A new word type that poses some challenges is that which ends in -tion. She should practice reading words like suggestion, celebration, fraction, and subtraction."
"We worked on phonic skills, blends, reading short sentences and compound words. She was asked to say each letter of the alphabet and spell pre-primer words from the Dolch Word List. We worked on all the letters and their corresponding sounds. She did not want to stop learning and wanted the session to continue. I included many strategies when teaching her these skills. She had plenty of extra work, and I brought some things with me."
