"We went over math concepts and practice math tests in the student's ACT practice book. She is improving."
"In this session, the student and I began by working through math problems from a practice test. We went over trigonometry, triangles and the Pythagorean theorem, scientific notation, matrices, and area. Once we talked through the problem and she noticed key phrases or parts of a diagram, he did a good job thinking through to the next steps of the problem. We practiced using properties of special triangles, powers of ten, re-drawn diagrams, and hidden right triangles to solve problems. For certain problems, we worked on other, similar problems to help him become familiar with a concept. In the second part of the session, we worked through four science passages. We talked through the first two passages, and I timed him as he worked through the third and fourth. He used close to an ideal amount of time for each of her passages. Overall, he did well on the science passages. We practiced reading questions about multiple graphs in parts and using information from one graph to read another. He can also remember that for questions about hypothetical situations, the answer may not be explicitly stated in the passage, but can be inferred from the text and trends in the data."
"We covered ACT math strategies and worked on more difficult math questions. We plan to meet 10/23 and will go over ACT Science."
