Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"On Sunday we started the final exam review for his test that is on Wednesday. We did problems 1-16 and were able to review some key concepts that may have been lost since the beginning of the year. The student was picking up on everything pretty quickly and we scheduled our next session for Monday."
"The student and I covered: Rational Zero Theorem, Simplifying and Rules of Exponents, Translating Functions, working with imaginary numbers, and practicing complicated quadratic equations. She has a great attitude but needs more practice so she can recognize certain patterns (such as difference of squares, etc.)."
"We continued working on the practice set that the student had been using in preparation for his exam. We worked on optimization problems and using Lagrange multipliers to solve a variety of maximization problems. We also worked on maximizing functions on their boundaries and their given domains."
"I worked with the student in preparation for his quiz on Monday. The quiz focused mainly on graphing transformations and piecewise functions. After a short review of transformations, I focused our efforts primarily on piecewise. He had been struggling with the concept in the past, but with an improved knowledge of the basic shape of the functions, he was able to better understand the concepts of piecewise functions and have a breakthrough in the subject. By the end of our session, he was confidently answering any example I made for him. I feel that he should be more than prepared for his quiz."
"The student doesn't have a test or quiz tomorrow, so we have time to go over chapter 8. We began with system of equations. He is now able to solve by eliminating and substituting. He will need to start focusing on multiplication drills. He and I moved on to rate of change. Although he can work out the formula (computationally), he isn't using his context clues. We will continue to work on deciphering rate of change and how to tell when our solution doesn't make sense. He did a great job today, and I will see him next week."
"We covered multiplying fractions and decimals. He was very excited to begin understanding the material. We talked about taking our time. I saw several scores and discussed them with the parents. He shows very good progress."
