Today we continued doing work on domains, ranges, and functions. We were looking mostly at absolute values and quadratic functions, and identifying what was and wasn't a function. We also worked on some chemistry, mostly on converting between mass, moles, and molecules.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Ahmed in New Braunfels, TX
We concretely finalized the student's understanding of a line (y=mx+b) and was able to begin on quadratic functions. He had completed his homework aside from two problems which he clearly attempted, but could not finish on his own. We thoroughly addressed the issues and he solved the problems with minimal assistance. Essentially, he needed further clarification to solidify his understanding with basic algebra (such as solving for x to find the x-intercept and how to identify the steps needed to separate a variable from surrounding multiplied, subtracted, etc. values). We were then able work through his professor's lecture slides and get him caught up to the present material. This included quadratic functions and radicals. We also clarified exponents and radicals, how to combine them, and how to view them (especially radicals). We went through and selected a few extra practice problems for him to complete to further solidify his understanding of and ability with the previous material.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by Casey in New Braunfels, TX
We covered new information about polynomials of the second power. We talked about their symmetrical properties and the shifts that can occur from having different coefficients. We talked about negative polynomials and shifts in the x and y directions. The student seemed to understand this really well by the end of the lesson and it was helpful for us to talk about what a function really is. Other things we did included solving systems of equations and plotting two lines on the same graph. We also did some work with inequalities and talked about polygons and interior angles.

The student worked on her assignment on Intermediate Value Theorem, zeroes of a function, and factorization. We also reviewed how to find the roots of a function using the quadratic formula and how to check/ graph a function using a calculator.

Pre-Calculus Tutoring review by John in New Braunfels, TX
The student and I covered a review of functions in calculus. We covered domains and ranges, compositions and arithmetic operations of functions. He was focused and had a great deal of his work done already. I only had to correct a couple of small mistakes in his work. I left him with an additional problem about the domain of a radical function composed with a polynomial. I informed him to review any problems he covers with help from me or anyone else, to make sure he can solve them independently.
