Building Blocks of 2nd Grade Math is a year-round supplemental class designed for students who are already doing the work in school and want to make sure they truly own it. While classroom teachers move at curriculum pace, this class gives students the space to go deeper on the skills that matter most: place value, regrouping, fractions, multiplication concepts, geometry, money, and more. Students who master these fundamentals don't just do better in 2nd grade — they show up to 3rd grade with a measurable advantage that compounds over time.
What This Class Is — and Why It Matters
Passing a unit and truly mastering a skill are two different things. In the middle of a busy school year, students make rational tradeoffs all the time — studying just enough to get the grade, then moving on. Teachers have to keep pace with curriculum calendars, and there's never enough time to revisit a concept once the class has moved forward. Building Blocks of 2nd Grade Math exists to close that gap. This is a year-round supplemental class for students who are already doing the work in school — not a replacement for classroom learning, but a strategic layer on top of it. Because this class runs across multiple cohorts throughout the year, different groups focus on the topics most relevant to where they are in the school year. That means instruction is always timely and targeted — reinforcing what students are currently working on in class while deepening their understanding beyond what a packed classroom schedule allows. Every session includes warm-up practice (like identifying numbers before, after, and between, or drilling doubles facts), direct instruction with visual models, and active problem-solving.
