Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The client is continuing to prepare for his Intro to Statistics course. We finished covering basic concepts about parametric tests, then went into chi-square and correlation. Next we will cover regression."
"Today, we worked on a number of problems where we had to calculate the mean, standard deviation, and variance for frequency distributions using a formula that is distinctly different from the normal mean and standard deviation for a sample. We also went over how to calculate the coefficient of variation as well as how to interpret what it is or what it tells us about the data."
"The student sent me several sheets of practice problems so we were able to start working right away. We started with weighted mean and then got into standard deviation. We spent some time getting through the mechanics before proceeding with the problem set. We then covered empirical rule and z-score. It was a very productive session."
"The student and I made final preparations for an exam. We first reviewed cumulative percentage which he was able to comprehend rather quickly. What he had most trouble with was with calculating the sample to population constant and how that factors into the weighted counts and percentages. We practiced the concepts with examples from previous projects. We ended the session going over expected values, conditional probabilities, and decision trees."
"Today, the student and I worked on standard deviation, variance, summation notation, box plots, normal distribution, quartiles, inferential statistics, and z-scores. She especially needed help on inferential statistics. She completed all of the practice problems assigned to her in preparation of her in-class quiz."
"Today, the student and I covered density curves, normal distribution, and z-tests. She was able to grasp the material right away. By the end of our time, she rated herself a 5 out of 5 for understanding the material, when at the beginning she had rated herself a 0/5. I think overall, this session was a win. She understood the difficult material quickly and was able to reason through and explain her computations."
