Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I discussed circular motion and gravitation. We went over the relationship among the magnitudes of masses as well as the separation between two bodies and their algebraic relationship. We went over the different forces that can act as the opposition to centripetal force and the relationship among the acceleration and velocity of a body undergoing circular motion."
"The student and I spent this session covering topics relating to molecular genetics - DNA replication, transcription, translation, RNA processing, operons, gene regulation, and gene mutations. She had been able to cover this material in her reading and her understanding of the topics was good. She did have questions about DNA v. RNA primase and operons, which we went over in detail. We were able to get through some of this material during the session, specifically PCR, vectors and cloning, restriction sites and transduction. Additionally, we did several of the practice problems together. As always, I try to incorporate outside information/ facts to the material to help her place it in a larger context. For our next session, she is going to finish the reading and practice problems in the chapter and read the next chapter as well."
"We went over a review sheet for the student's exam tomorrow. The questions that we went over were mainly about kinematics, energy, and momentum. I told her to review the equations from the earlier part of her class before her test so that she can recall them much easier."
"In helping the student to prepare for his final exam, I walked him through some free-response questions, including ranking tasks. Then I made up a ranking problem having to do with a spring-mass oscillator. He was a lot more confident today than he was yesterday, so I think his test will go well."
"Today we did a general review of forces and kinematics. The student did not struggle with the material and her attitude was positive throughout the session. I included strategies to help prepare for the exam."
"We did a general review of all physics 1 topics that the student has covered to date in preparation for the final. We did planetary motion, gravity, projectile motion, circular motion, energy, and force balance problems. He seemed to feel very comfortable in these topics, however he mentioned that he made a few mistakes on his previous exam on circular motion, so we focused on this topic initially. He mentioned he would like to get in the high 80s on his final so he can get his desired grade, and I believe he has a good understanding of these topics, so hopefully will be successful."
