How can Writing tutoring help you?

Being able to write eloquently is such an important component of success in the professional and academic worlds. Throughout your life as a student, you may be required to write essays, diaries, and explanations that highlight key points and naturally flow together. Because of this, students learn at an early age how to properly write. If you are the parent of a child in grade school, and you worry that they aren't getting the writing assistance they need to succeed, consider working with a private tutor. The educational directors at Varsity Tutors are happy to help you find an independent, professional writing tutor in Portland, OR.

A professional tutor in Portland might help optimize your child's potential in their writing course. Whether your child is in elementary school and just learning the importance of spelling and sentence structure, or they're in secondary education and need to understand expository writing, a tutor may help. One of the biggest advantages of one-on-one tutoring lessons is that your child is able to study in a manner that places their needs at the center. Private lessons are more interactive than traditional education, so your child has the attention of their tutor throughout the duration of their lessons. This means that they may receive immediate assistance from their professional tutor if they begin to struggle at any point.

The student read chapters 5-8 in the book. We repeated the same lesson from our last session: I find vocabulary words from the reading, and the student has to guess what the words mean based on context clues. Then, he finds their actual definitions in the dictionary. After making some sense of the difficult language in the text, we reviewed the chapters and tried to pick apart clues in the mystery itself.

I had the student read a challenging short story and then start a series of exercises attached to the story. The vocabulary was very difficult in the story, but he did a great job sounding out words he didn't know and guessing their meaning. He understood the plot and was able to answer most of the questions with very little difficulty. We did not finish all of the exercises attached to the story, so we will continue with that next time.

During the second hour, we continued work on his essay. As we wrote, we brought in the new rules we learned, while continuing to refine his supporting examples per paragraph.
