How can a Elementary Math tutor help you?

In elementary mathematics, your student is going to be covering a lot of ground. It may start with your child learning basics like whole numbers and measurements units, and progress towards geometry and trigonometry. For some children this is no problem, but for those whose skills lie in other subject areas, it may be a big deal. It may be an even bigger deal if mathematical difficulties are allowed to snowball. A student who struggles with analytic geometry isn't going to coast through three-dimensional geometry. Let Varsity Tutors find you an expert elementary math tutor in Portland who may create personalized study sessions designed to meet your child's specific goals.

Those goals could involve working on missing foundational skills, or even just following along with a current syllabus to try to help your student stays on top of needed information. It could even mean targeted instruction aimed at passing testing in the Oregon Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (OAKS). Whatever your child's needs are, a professional elementary math tutor in Portland may design a study plan specifically designed for him or her.

We also looked at naming shapes such as spheres, cylinders, etc. Lastly we did multiplication practice using flash cards. I left the student with a self-created review sheet to work on since we were not meeting second time this week, as normally scheduled.

The student and I began today's session by completing her math homework. She is continuing to work on adding 4 single digit numbers; however, her teacher is now setting up the problems horizontally. Her strategy is to add each pair of numbers together and then add the two sums together. I noticed that she sometimes puts the sum of the second pair as the answer for all 4 numbers. I reminded her to check over her work and make sure it is clear and complete. We then began going through her Helen Keller book to write down the important facts about her life. Finally, we finished up our last 5 minutes by playing a game to help reinforce her multiplication facts. The student tried hard and was great to work with!
