How can Chemistry tutoring help you?

Chemistry is an invaluable course that is mandatory for students from late middle school to senior year. Your child may be preparing for a later course or their first introduction to chemistry. Either of these may prove daunting for a child, whether he or she hasn't thought about the basics of chemical bonds in years or he or she struggled to grasp the law of conservation of energy. It is all too common for students in a classroom-based setting to suffer from learning gaps. Teachers may gloss over topics your child needs in order to spend more time on one he or she is already strong in. A personal tutor may try to help your child continue learning without feeling bored or frustrated. Call the Varsity Tutors educational directors in Portland, Oregon, to find an expert chemistry tutor today.

If you are seeking chemistry tutoring near Portland, the educational directors at Varsity Tutors may help you connect with a tutor who could help your child work towards his or her academic goals. You may discuss your child's learning style, strengths and weaknesses, current instruction, curriculum, and more to allow the directors to match your child with an excellent tutor for him or her.

Portland, OR Chemistry tutoring
The student and I worked on several practice problems relating to acid-base equilibria to help prepare for his test on Thursday. After clarifying a few concepts and helping him set up a few of the problems, we just breezed through the work. Not only am I really proud of his overall progress so far, but I am also very impressed with how well he has picked up acid-base chemistry (an often incredibly difficult concept for chemistry students). I do however want to work with him more on setting up the problems. I only helped him set up a few of the problems today but I eventually want to get to the point where he will no longer need my guidance with such problems. I plan to work with him more on this on Wednesday to better prepare him for his test.

The student and I worked on Chemistry, specifically reviewing the mole. We practiced converting between moles and grams, moles and liters, moles and number of particles, and every permutation possible of those quantities. I introduced dimensional analysis and using units to dictate multiplication and division, rather than memorizing so many formulas.

I started the lesson trying to analyze where the student was in Chemistry. He has taken AP Chemistry, so he has a firm understanding of concepts and ideas of General Chemistry. I then provided him with some strategies for the SAT Subject exam. We completed half a practice exam using the strategies we had just learned.
