Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We went through a set of practice questions on topics that we determined last week were in need of focus. The student got an SAT prep book and during the week she will finish the online practice questions and work through her prep book."
"We covered properties of triangles (congruent, equilateral, Pythagorean theorem, etc.). The student seemed to catch on to the ideas and, after some practice, was able to work the problems on her own. I left her with another problem set to do during the week."
"The student has decided to take the SAT in December in order to get a "benchmark" for her SAT studies. She then plans to take it again in January. Our discussion lead to an analysis of the LA areas in which she feels most vulnerable. Those were the questions that required identifying sentence portions that had grammatical or compositional errors and those that required editing selections. In addition, she would like to get a high grade on the SAT essay--not just a high average grade per the rubric. In essence, we will concentrate our time together on a number of grammatical elements that too often pose conundrums for her: past perfect tenses, subjunctive tenses, and misplaced modifiers. Also, we will devote time to writing and critiquing essays, using the SAT prompts and referring to the SAT rubric. Other session time was spent with the student doing sentence review exercises from the test prep guide and determining our session schedule until the December 6 SAT. For additional homework, she will begin working more on vocabulary according to a plan we laid out."
