Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"I did a review for the student's exam. We went over the material in his textbook and used the AP bio book as a supplement to understand concepts better. He asked good questions and was able to answer all the question I gave him regarding the exam material. I am not concerned about his ability to do well on the exam. He is really prepared. I gave him some good testing strategies and told him to look over key figures in the section so that he can identify and understand the concepts."
"I enjoyed meeting the student, and I feel like we had a productive session. We worked on a problem set that focused on the periodic table and deriving the properties of the different elements using it. He seems to be very interested in and curious about science, and it was a joy to talk about the different elements with him. Next time, I'm going to reinforce and review what he covered today before moving onto the new material."
"I figured out the student's schedule, along with his grade in each of his classes and how he organizes for each of his classes. We decided that he should get a central organizer to keep track of his notes, homework, and loose-leaf materials for each class. He has a few low grades, but he is aiming high, and he believes he can get there for all of his classes. We worked on developing note-taking skills for science, and understanding the importance of the material. Next week, we will review material for his math test (on Tuesday), and see the progress he has made in studying for science."
"I gathered a conglomerate of questions on cell structure and cell transport from various sources. I created the last few questions with emphasis on human physiology. I had the student print the questions out prior to the session and do them. Overall, she did well, and she has improved her test taking skills. I feel like she will do well on her unit 2 exam, and she knows what more to review on her own. This time around, I gave her feedback after every question; for the next unit, I believe it will be more beneficial to have her complete all of the questions and have me review them at the end. I just wanted to make sure I could observe her thought process for each question this time."
"I gave her a sheet of 10 practice problems that I prepared for her. She is doing exceptionally well and finished the sheet in just over 10 minutes, when I was expecting it to take at least half an hour. I explained the importance of significant digits and how they relate the precision and accuracy of measurements. I also explained more on bonding and Lewis dot structures. I showed her how to determine if a bond is ionic or covalent, and to find charges on atoms in a molecule."
"We went through the student's quiz and answered the questions. The material in the quiz was IR, NMR and synthesis of compounds from alkynes. The student had questions for finding the molecular formula from a given molecular ion. The quiz questions were explained to the student in details. We also covered some alcohols reactions as requested by the student."
