Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I reviewed how to classify species into phylum. We worked with one of her PowerPoints, a handout and her textbook. I quizzed the student on the properties of different phylums and helped her come up with a plan to try and get through and remember all of the material."
"Student struggled with some concepts involving the nervous system but had a solid understanding by the end of the session. With the coming test this week, we will see how the student is progressing grade wise in the class and see if there is a need for any supplemental material during the session."
"We went over what topics had been covered in class already, what they were covering now, and what they may do the rest of the school year. She had trouble with the lessons on scientific experiments, cell structure, photosynthesis, and the Krebs Cycle. We agreed to review these topics in the next few sessions. She is now learning about DNA and read a chapter on it for homework, and we went over the discussion questions. She seems to be a serious student and wants to get better grades which is very encouraging."
"We covered basic Ecology terminology and vocabulary. She seemed sharp, and I didn't feel like she was struggling much. She didn't seem that much interested in the subject which reflects the fact that she perhaps knew the material pretty well. I suggested that she write down the definitions in her own words until they makes sense. She mentioned that she does this on a regular basis. I asked her to bring me sample exam questions so I can better understand specific requests from her teacher. Overall, I enjoyed working with her and I hope I get to see her again and help her with more complicated subjects."
"We covered homework that is due in Unit 2, and then reviewed what the student got wrong on the quiz. She is to speak with her teacher regarding the lab report that is due and check to see if she got the hypothesis right. I told her it's not possible to do a lab report without being in lab, and her teacher will be able to help her. I'm expecting an email from her by Monday."
"We covered osmosis, hypertonic vs hypotonic solutions, and the concept of diffusion. The student was having some trouble understanding the concept as it was explained in class and wanted to go over a homework worksheet before a quiz the next day. We went problem by problem until she understood them. I also introduced outside examples and we went over the individual definitions of 'hyper' and 'hypo'. I believe she will do fine on the quiz tomorrow."
