Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on z-scores and probability today. We are preparing for her exam which is next Thursday."
"Today we focused entirely on calculus. Specifically we worked only on convergence tests in preparation for an upcoming exam. We started by going over practice quiz problems, moved on to specific convergence tests with which the student was not comfortable, and finished by completing a multi-part problem that required identification of and application of a variety of convergence tests. I think that he should be much more comfortable with applying convergence tests (particularly the limit comparison test) and he should know which tests to try first (such as the direct comparison test)."
"The student and I studied her chapter 5 algebra 3 assignments. We need to begin to set aside time for state assessment practice tests."
"For this session the student worked on a homework assignment focusing on trig identities. In particular, we discussed the reasons behind the Pythagorean identities and the cofunction theorem as well as some of the tells behind using certain identities, like looking for squares. We also reviewed how to factor the difference of squares as it came up again in a slightly more complicated form. By the end of the session, the student was able to finish the problems mostly without input and seemed comfortable with identifying which identities to use and how to simplify afterwards."
"I had a wonderful time meeting the student; she is truly a treat. She had homework/review questions in her packet to do, so we started there . Trigonometry is a large concept in Pre-Calculus. During this session, we covered our lovely friend SOH-COH-TOA. She was able to determine theta from the triangles using the trig functions. Trig inverses were not her friend. How to use them and how they correlated with what she needed wasn't clear to her. By the end of the session, she was using her inverses with ease."
"I helped the student prepare for his exam on Tuesday. We reviewed his homework problems and went over the topics covered during his class. While he grasped all of the concepts he was taught, some of the trickier algebra gave him trouble. We worked on this, however, and he should have an idea of how to approach those sorts of problems."
