Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I worked on reading skills and addition and subtraction math problems. She needed help most with adding and subtracting. She approached all of the material we covered with a very positive attitude. While working on her math problems, we used crayons for counting so she could have a visual representation of what she was doing. This was our first session together and it seemed to go very well."
"The student and I worked on reading and spelling for the majority of this session. We did this week's literature activity, where he read a nonfiction passage about earthworms. After reading the passage, we answered questions together and underlined where we found the answers in the passage. After this activity, we practiced spelling words. We ended the session with a little bit of math. We split a deck of cards and each put down a card at a time. The first person to add up the cards won. At the end, we counted up how many cards we each had accumulated."
"We read story assigned from school titled Sharks. Then I used a sight word website that tests his knowledge of sight words. If he answered by 3 seconds it assumes he knows the word. Out of 50 words he was able to accurately identify 40. I worked on the fluency passage, Kim's Flower, and he was able to read 47 words in one minute. To help refocus the student I let him play 5 minutes of Rush Hour and then we read a story from a website, The Race Car. We also worked on the story, The Mitten, a benchmark D book. We highlighted key words he was struggling with and he seemed interested."
