Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We covered all 4 sections of the ACT individually. In Math, the student worked on several areas that were identified as weaknesses last session. He made marked improvement during this session. I suggested some calculator tools to use. In Science, he completed a practice Conflicting Viewpoint passage and did well. We discussed strategies for this section. In Reading, he practiced a couple passages that were timed. He did very well on these. Finally, we briefly covered the English section. We talked about the topics that would be on the ACT and identified a couple areas to work on next week."
"We went over homework from English class one and math class one. Then we went through reading class one and the first half of science class one."
"For this session, the student and I went over his previous essay and did a timed rewrite, as well as going over his essay from the final practice test. We focused on his ability to clearly state his thesis and support his thesis with specific examples that relate directly to the topic. I also discussed with him his previous reading portion of the practice test (Exam B), in which he missed bubbling in the answers all the way. After closely looking at the small marks for this section, he would have scored a 24 in reading with a new composite score of 23. While he completed his timed rewrite, I scored his final practice test, in which he scored as follows: English - 27, Math - 28, Reading - 24, Science - 25, with a composite score of 26! This is by far his best score yet and was his goal score for the test. We finished the rest of the session by going through missed math questions and reviewing math concepts. He has one final practice test to complete, and I advised him to go through any questions he had trouble with and to e-mail me if he has any concerns about these concepts. I also advised him to review the major points for approaching each section, as well as tips for test day. I am very confident that he will be able to perform well on test day and reach his goals."
