Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student told me earlier today that he did not do very well on his last exam, which was disappointing to hear since I know he's worked really hard to get this material down. He says he has trouble with test-taking specifically, so we're really going to focus on test-taking strategies and making sure he knows how to get every detail written out correctly the way his teacher wants for him to get full credit. We went through the last exam to see where he made mistakes and started working through another one of his exams from earlier in the semester."
"The student told me she has a test tomorrow. We went over using diagrams to explain multiplication and using number sentences. In addition, we reviewed vocabulary regarding factor, product, addend, and sum. She still needs to slow down, and this is something we will be working on in preparation for the Math exam."
"The student took a timed addition test and did well. We used a drawing strategy and a graphing strategy to solve two word problems about cookies. We reviewed writing numerals and corrected a few numbers that had been drawn backwards. Lastly, we reviewed our doubles facts up to ten, and he will work on remembering that 4+4=8. He will also practice writing his numbers on his calendar. He had a great positive attitude and was eager to work and share. We look forward to our next session!"
"The student took her test yesterday, which we had studied for together. Today, we previewed what she will be learning this week in math, which included factoring polynomials in fraction form and cancelling out terms. She mastered this concept well!"
"The student wanted help in expansion of a binomial raised to a certain power. She knew that she needed to use the Pascal triangle to find her coefficients. I explained to her how to construct and use the triangle. We also talked about arithmetic and geometric series. We worked on problems looking for a particular term and also finding the sum of both types of series. I also gave some tips in memorizing formulas and how to deal with word problems on her test."
"The student wanted help with a review packet for a test tomorrow. The session went very well. We worked on practice free-response AP Calculus BC Exam questions involving integration, using tables, graphs of the functions, and graphs of the derivatives of the functions."
