Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student shows improvement in each of our weekly sessions. We discussed her going back over her work and checking her answers. In our recent meeting, she was displaying these skills. I am impressed with her progress each week."
"The student solved an assignment problem relating to derivation of maximum likelihood estimation for variance of a random variable. Then we reviewed the approach for hypothesis testing for the maximum likelihood estimate, given a different hypothesis for the same variance, using the Wald test, log likelihood test, and Lagrange multiplier test statistics, comparing each against a Chi-square distribution at alpha=0.05."
"The student spent most of this section on his math worksheet. Of particular note was a problem on the volume of cylinders, which asked him to convert units of volume from L to cm^3. This was tricky at first, but as he worked and I guided him, he got the hang of it. We also worked on some basic algebra, and focused on converting linear equations from slope intercept form to standard form. He was very hardworking throughout the session."
"The student spent the majority of this session working on her reading project. She outlined it and completed the first paragraph. She was also required to craft five key book artifacts, so I helped her brainstorm ideas. I left her with a little more homework than usual, in order to keep her math brain working over the weekend."
"The student started a new concept in class of solving 3 equations with 3 variables by substitution and elimination. She is starting to work the problems on her own but sometimes still needs a little guidance to proceed. We did some drills in the beginning for factoring quadratic equations. She seems to be getting better, and she has a quiz tomorrow. We will be looking at the results next week."
"The student started a new section on logs, so we went over how to switch between logarithmic and exponential forms, some properties of logs, and how to expand and condense terms with logs. We also went over some word problems with logs, and how to graph transformations of logs. She needed some deeper explanations than she got in class, and by the end of the session, she understood the majority of the material."
