Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Today, we went over his homework which included some algebra review, definitions of parallel/perpendicular/skew lines, and proofs. He told me he had trouble with proofs on his recent Chapter 2 test. From this session and on, I'll be giving him some proofs to solve/work through. I introduced some online problems to him today, and he was somewhat able to solve them. We will continue working with proofs until he feels more comfortable working with them."
"Tonight was a great session. We finished a 2 hour session in order to prepare her for her upcoming test. We went over her entire review, problem by problem. She did really well on working with transversals and parallel lines. We discussed angle relationships when two parallel lines were intersected by a transversal. She did a great job of applying these concepts to problems asking to solve for two different variables. We completed the session by working on a few more proofs. After the session, I forgot to include an explanation of one problem, so I emailed the student the explanation. Great session! Good luck on your test next week!"
"Tonight we went over the student's previous test. We then discussed what's on her upcoming test and went over her proofs HW. I am going to send mom some practice for her to do before our session on Sunday."
"Tonight we worked on the sum of the angles in a triangle as well as the area of triangles and parallelograms. We also worked on test taking skills, including slowing down, breathing and being careful to read and observe all details. I left the student with some practice problems for the upcoming quiz. His grade has improved from a D to a C. He admitted to liking math if it weren't for the homework and the stress. As he settles into the habit of spending regular time doing math, it will become less stressful, and he will see that good habits eliminate stress."
"Tonight, the student and I looked at discrete and continuous random variables and probability distributions. He picked up on these concepts very quickly, so we also looked ahead to preview his upcoming lessons on expected value, standard deviation, and the binomial distribution."
"Tonight, the student and I worked on reviewing for her unit 3 test. This test is on proofs. She is in very good shape, but is nervous because this material is very new to her. At times, she overthinks things and confuses herself. I gave her some extra work in the textbook to review before the test on Thursday. I think she will do very well. "
