"I put together a practice test, using the teacher's practice problems as a guide, in preparation for the student's Chapter 8 exam tomorrow. We reviewed asymptotes- their definition, location, and how they change with horizontal (for exponential) and vertical (for logs) translation. The practice test problems were all from the textbook so she can review them again later in the evening. The test will cover exponential equations for growth and decay- focusing on population change, future value, and material depreciation; exponential and log functions, identifying their asymptotes, horizontal and vertical translations; logarithm operations for expansion, simplification, and solving. The practice test focused on all of these topics and I gave the student 30 minutes to solve 18 problems (the teacher gave 16 problems and said he would allot 25 minutes during class to take the exam). The student knows all of the equations and rules well; she's very solid on exponential growth/decay. Her challenge for this exam will be attention to detail in her work and answers. The student does very well on her homework assignments (all of her hw grades for Sections 8.2 - 8.6 have been 100%), but under time constraints her attention to detail goes down. I believe focusing on her attention to detail during the sessions will benefit her grades and her test taking abilities in future classes. To start, I'm going to have her begin doing daily exercises to improve her attention and problem solving."
"This week the student and I worked on line segments, and I introduced how they could be used to learn more about angles and geometry. He continues to make steady progress."
"The student and I reviewed her homework assignments. She is currently working on surface area calculations using apothems."
"Today we covered, in depth, the linear probability models, as well as logit and probit. We covered how they're derived as well as their drawbacks in estimation."
"We worked on some multiple regression analysis, as well as reviewing some earlier topics. We also took a quick look ahead to the next chapter."
"We went over chapters 7, 8 and 9, specifically focusing on differentiating the formulas and making sure the student was comfortable using the formulas for the various problems."
