"We worked on a worksheet on work. We then completed three problems that required drawing a free body diagram that included the direction of displacement, determining the angle between the force doing the work and the direction of displacement, and identifying if the work was positive or negative and why. Despite choosing to do Physics this session, Ian resisted working on the assignment. We spent the last 15-20 minutes practicing absolute value equations, linear equations, and factoring to keep the material fresh so that the student can retake the assessments on these topics. I left an additional set of Algebra practice problems so that he could continue to practice the next day."
"Today we worked through his Web assignments that he had not yet completed. Topics covered included work, conservation of energy, kinetic energy, potential energy, and mechanical energy. The student is gaining confidence in his work and is beginning to set up problems correctly on his own."
"We reviewed a 21 question handout from the class and two questions from the final (on which the student scored an 89, for which he is justifiably proud). He grasps the concepts; he needs only to concentrate on setting up the equations for solving the problems. He is very efficient in using the mathematics correctly."
"During today's session, we went over 2-d kinematics and reviewed 1-d motion for the student's exam tomorrow. She seemed to be quite comfortable with 2-d kinematics, but still had some questions from 1-d motion. We worked on a number of problems from both topics and were able to clear some confusion that she had concerning the topics."
"We went over mainly capacitors - both using them in circuits as well as deriving equations for the amount of energy stored inside a capacitor. In the beginning, he had difficulty remembering the different rules for capacitors in series and in parallel. He did not give up, and by the end of the session showed some great progress toward solving complicated circuits on his own. I included my strategies for attacking these problems and making them much simpler and solving them step by step."
"Today the student and I went through some practice problems in preparation for her upcoming exam. The problems focused on topics such as momentum and collisions, conservation of energy, rotational kinematics, and the universal law of gravitation. We also discussed what information she should make sure to include on her formula sheet."
