Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"Again reviewed vocab for tests - 3 lists reviewed - tested and retested for memory and spelling - went over irreg verb oir and ver and stem change for jugar."
"We went over a test that he has tomorrow. The subjects we discussed were the present progressive tense, and the use of object pronouns."
"We started with reviewing some sentences with time concepts learned last week. We didn't do the entire breadth of concepts learned, but the student recalled almost all of what was in the review and was able to sign grammatically correct sentences. We then very briefly reviewed some hobbies. Next, we went on to learn more numbers. The student has now learned how to sign all numbers. We discussed how after learning through the teens, twenties, and the basic sign for hundred, thousand, and million, you can combine those sign to create any number. We had previously talked about numbers in terms of time and today we talked about using numbers in terms of money. The student asked a few more questions about money, like credit card, so we talked about various ways to pay and a few other money concepts. We then moved on to talking about food. We covered the major food groups and I taught the student signs for foods within those groups. We practiced the sentences from lesson 7 and she did well on them. She sometimes forgets to add the NNM to show questions, but she does well with word order in ASL. She then signed the story from the lesson. She did well on this. The few mistakes she made were in areas that we have not extensively covered, like classifiers. Lastly, we talked about some attention getting strategies that are used within the Deaf community and ways to get a Deaf person's attention that would be different from getting a hearing person's attention. Overall, we had a good session. We will meet again next week at our normal Sunday time."
"We started with a review, it was conducted in Q & A form. While reviewing, I added new material at the same time, some of the new vocab for today were: car, inside, plan to, restaurant, ask, again, one more time, write, piece, name, parents, and next time. We then went through the textbook chapter 2, where we studied dialog. We played the scene to practice conversation and different expressions. I checked the homework from the last time. Once again, the students were able to digest a lot of stuff, so the progress is very quick. They were excellent at learning and digesting."
"The student and I spent a lot of time reviewing irregular present tense verbs. We finished the last two groups of irregulars I had wanted to get through this session. I assigned her homework that encompasses each form we learned so that we can do a comprehensive review the next time we meet. Overall she does very well with verb conjugations once she understands the rule for each type. She is a quick learner and is beginning to memorize the grammar rules we have covered more easily. We also worked on some reading comprehension and Spanish-English translation. This is a good way for her to learn unfamiliar vocabulary as she comes across words she is unfamiliar with. I plan to begin reviewing regular past tense verbs with her during our next session."
"We covered seasons and clothes by reviewing the vocabulary list and speaking. Then we reviewed direct object pronouns and the student completed a worksheet. I concluded the session by encouraging her to review the material because she has a quiz on Friday. Also, I suggested she use a language app to get additional practice in between sessions."
