I recently graduated summa cum laude from the University of South Florida Honors College with a degree in Biomedical Sciences.I have tutored my peers in a wide range of math, chemistry, and foreign language classes throughout both high school and college, but my subject of choice is definitely test prep. Every student has the potential to do well on the ACT! My method of teaching is focused on finding the learning styles and test-taking strategies that are best-suited to the individual student, instead of a one-size-fits-all approach. My goal is ultimately to equip students with the skills to succeed not just on a test, but in all their future academic endeavors.

Education and teaching has been my passion from a young age. I would trade my recess times in elementary school to go into classrooms and just watch teachers and volunteer as a student helper. I have enjoyed working in many positions in education, such as a teacher, educational director, mentor, and program evaluator to name a few. My favorite position was helping teachers teach and providing support in making the learning environment come alive. . Being able to go into the classrooms and share fun strategies with teachers such as lesson activities, making up learning songs, and connecting learning to real world experiences, was and is truly rewarding. Being an educator for both students and teachers is an amazing position to hold. However, the greatest treasure that I have found is the learning and growth that I receive from each student and teacher that I am able to work with.

I believe all students can learn to read. Teachers must carefully assess a child's present reading process to determine both strengths and areas of need. I contend that assessment is an assistant to instruction, effective teachers meet children where they are and take them elsewhere, blending competence with compassion. Competence involves knowing how reading develops and knowing how to observe literacy in action. This is especially true when teaching students who are struggling below grade level. The path to reading is different for every student. It's the tutor/ teacher's job to find the entry to that path and then guide the reader with appropriate language and materials to eventual success. Ideally, I expect every child I teach to become an avid reader. Thus, my hope is that the student not merely reads books but falls in love with them!

My educational journey began at Kent's Hill, a boarding school in Maine. I went on to pursue a degree at The University of Maine at Augusta, where I received my BA in a liberal arts degree. I later continued my educational journey by pursuing my Masters in Visual Arts from Jacksonville University. At Jacksonville University I had the opportunity to teach a figure drawing class. I have seven years of experience teaching grades 6th to 12th grade. Most recently my experience is working for the Maine public school system, as an art teacher with grades K-12. I teach studio art courses to Middle school students, while I teach High school students advance drawing, painting, sculpture, and foundational art classes. With every art student that I have mentored, I have encouraged them to explore their potential to advance skills in new mediums and push conceptual thinking.

As a Harvard student, I majored in Psychology; however, my passion for writing extends back to childhood. I self-published my first book at the age of eighteen, and have since enjoyed writing on a variety of topics ranging from creative fiction and essays to neuroscience and psychiatry. I subscribe to Einstein's quote: "If you can't explain something simply, you don't understand it well enough." I genuinely enjoy connecting with students and adapting my teaching style so that every piece of material makes sense and learning feels fun!

Additionally, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida and then went on to get a Chancellor's scholarship in medical school. As a result, my rigorous education and overcoming educational obstacles have prepared me well to teach other students; I have successfully passed national board exams including MCAT, SAT, COMLEX Level 1, COMLEX Level 2, USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2; I know what it takes to succeed.I taught students at the Kissimmee Charter Academy in undergraduate school. I'm currently in my fourth year of medical school and finally have some time to dedicate to teach other students. I believe that knowledge is meaningless unless it is shared and applied. I now want to share the knowledge I have acquired over an education of 25 years to teach students and facilitate their learning.Teaching is an art as much as it is a skill; I love teaching; having been a student all my life, I know how to overcome obstacles that many students face every day. Since graduation from Rollins College, I have immersed myself in education while trying to gain as much experience in the field as possible. After graduating from Rollins, I interned at a facility that specialized in educating students with autism and individually working with each student to assist them in reaching their academic potential. From there, I began working as a paraprofessional at a charter school that also educates students with autism. I worked there for three years before I transferred to my current job as a middle school InD teacher. I really enjoy the job and actually began my job as a tutor as a result. A parent of one of my students asked if I could begin tutoring her over the summer to keep her on track for the upcoming school year. Before I knew it, I was tutoring her brother (3rd grade) and another one of my students. I really enjoy tutoring and working one-on-one with students to achieve their academic goals. I particularly like working with students in math, writing, grammar, reading, and phonics. In my experience, I have noticed that many students are lacking education in developing the basic skills that can help them in reading (identifying letter sounds/blending) and in math (looking for key words in word problems/using manipulatives to better understand adding/subtracting/multiplying). I am a firm believer in education, and I believe that it is absolutely necessary to have in order for them to reach their full potential and reach their goals!

Since graduation, I have earned my ESOL and Reading Certifications added onto my teaching degree. As a tutor, the most passionate subjects that I have taught the last 15 years as an educator; they are Reading and Writing, focusing on ESOL students and Intensive Reading students. I am a "firm, fair, and friendly," educator, that the 'student' will enjoy and eventually learn new reading strategies within my lessons. This will help improve the student's reading and writing scores at the end of the year assessments.
