Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"The student and I spent the majority of the session continuing with his presentation for one of his classes. He was able to add more detail to the parts we had touched on from the last session, and came up with more ideas to jump off with to continue with his presentation. We brainstormed for certain ideas to counter his argument for the presentation, and he researched articles to back up said ideas. We then started discussing what he could state for his own take on the subject, which proved to be a smoother process. We ended the session making cosmetic edits to his presentations by adding clip art."
"The student and I spent time today talking about functions. We spent a good amount of time at first discussing the definition of domain and how that relates to both graphs and verbal descriptions of a function. He was able to correctly identify the domain of several function examples given to him. We also spent time graphing functions and identifying if certain points were valid solutions. This was an excellent review of graphing, substitution, and converting equations. He did well with this after a bit of reviewing and was able to solve the problems independently. I was also able to teach him a couple of new skills for how to easily fill out a table and create a graph. Overall, it was a great first session!"
"The student and I spent today's session working through his math homework assignment, which covered exponential growth/decay functions. He seemed to grasp this topic quickly and was able to answer most of the questions on the assignment with little assistance from me. We then worked through an older homework assignment on systems of equations. He did a much better job this time around; his understanding of this topic has improved significantly since the first time he attempted this assignment. I was glad to hear that his grade in his math class has improved quite a bit over the last couple of weeks. As always, he was attentive, focused, and a pleasure to work with this afternoon."
"The student and I started a review of his math material for his test. We focused on different forms for linear equations (again). He is beginning to master this, but still has a little trouble with vertical/horizontal lines."
"The student and I studied for her test tomorrow during our session. We cleared up a few misconceptions on a strategy she did not understand, and I had her walk me through an additional few practice problems to make sure she understood each step of the process. Then, we went through some more of her study guide, and she solved all of the problems correctly. She should be successful on her test tomorrow."
"The student and I used the Algebra 1 platform to review absolute value equations and inequalities, systems of equations, factoring and other review topics that will be on her exam. She was very focused and quiet during the session. She asked questions when she needed help. She also recognized a few mistakes that she made while completing her extra practice problems, and she was able to fix them. By the end of the session, she was able to complete the review I gave her and work on extra practice that will help reinforce the concepts."
