Session Summaries by ASPIRE Tutors

ASPIRE Tutoring review by Meredith in Austin, TX
The student wanted to get in another session before the test, so we met today to go over a few final things. We spent most of the session reviewing Math concepts, as this section still gives her some anxiety. She knows that she has not covered many of the concepts in her Math classes at school and is worried about the more advanced problems on the Math test. I provided her with a list of commonly tested formulas and concepts to help ease her mind a little. After Math, we did a few practice English exercises together, and she did really well with these. Finally, we went over what to expect on test day and the importance of pacing and endurance for the extended time test.

The student and I went over his educational history, what sorts of extra curriculars he does, and what his goals are for the ACT and college. He says that he will more than likely retake the ACT, most likely in his senior year. His goal score is a 24. He says that he treats English like programming and coding language rules, so I decided to go over grammar and punctuation today. He struggles a little with modifiers and rhetorical skills. I left him with instructions to do a reading or science passage every day, and to take a full length practice test tomorrow morning.

ASPIRE Tutoring review by Andrew in Austin, TX
At Thursday's session, the student and I reviewed various angle relationships associated with parallel lines intersecting a transversal: corresponding, alternate interior, same-side interior, opposite, etc. She has greatly improved her understanding of the other angle relationships. We then focused on the writing and critical reading sections. For homework, I asked her to complete a two-document comparative multiple choice section.

During this session, the student and I took another look at the science section. We focused in on how to draw things out and what to pay attention to, especially with the experimental passages and paying attention to what changes from experiment to experiment. He will take the ACT on Saturday and, although he is nervous, is consistently scoring several points higher on all sections.

ASPIRE Tutoring review by Aalok in Austin, TX
For this lesson, the student and I started off with a discussion of how to prepare in the coming weeks. I advised two full length tests in the coming three weeks. We went through a full length reading section, writing section, and long dual passage section. She did well on the vocabulary and reading sections, even self identifying a few errors. For the writing, she did very well on improving sentences. She does need to work on Error ID questions. Based on these estimates, I believe a score of 650 on the reading is reasonable, and a score of 650 on the writing is reasonable. I honestly expect a 650 or 700 from the math, since she did very well on speed/pacing drills for math. That being said, a score of 2000 is expected, with 2100 within sight.

ASPIRE Tutoring review by Sonya in Austin, TX
The student is as prepared as anyone can be for this test. We ran a few problems from each section. He consistently finished under time and with high accuracy. If he goes in tomorrow and does what he has been doing in practice, I expect great results from him.
