"The student has come a long way since we started couple weeks ago. Today we reviewed energy, work, power, friction, and centripetal force. A lot of material, but he has an exam tomorrow. Initially, I thought he'd be overwhelmed by all the information, but he managed very well in every concept. He's beginning to combine intuition with the formulas, in order to arrive at the right answers. He just needs a bit more practice to begin scoring in the upper 80's and 90's."
"Today's session with the student was great! She told me she got a 97% on her last chemistry quiz. We worked on her assigned homework together, and reviewed the flashcards that the teacher assigned to her. After the student finished her homework, I gave her some more practice questions to make sure she understood the concepts and how to do the problems by herself. We then previewed her next two class sessions on mass % calculations and empirical formula, and molecular formula definitions. Overall, the session went well."
"The student is such a joy to work with! We only went over conceptual questions today. We covered the topics of gravity, centripetal acceleration, centripetal force, centrifugal force, orbit, ellipse, and a few other topics involving space. It was so fun! She really is grasping the different concepts at a crazy fast rate. She only needs a little guidance, and then she can basically talk herself through the rest. The best part of the lesson was when we discussed the Earth's orbit around the sun and how it is an ellipse and that it travels fastest when it is closest to the sun because the gravitational pull from the sun is stronger, thus the earth accelerates at a quicker rate. During the lesson, we answered almost two pages of conceptual questions and didn't move on until she understood each question. I leave lessons with her feeling rejuvenated and excited about physics!!"
"The student and I worked on a review sheet for his last three lessons. These covered the flame tests and electronic transitions, valence electrons, and the effects of ionization. We continued working on the review sheet from last time, this time we focused on a chart that showed the relationship between atoms and how they formed ions. We completed a good portion of the chart and the remainder will be homework for him."
"The student and I worked on her research paper on fire. We looked into the chemical reaction underlying fire, and effects of the quantity of oxygen on the color or temperature of fire. We have also gone over tips on drafting a science research paper, and citing the paper appropriately. We will be continuing to work together through text and email on the paper as she continues to work on the draft."
"The student and I worked on part of his latest physics problem set, covering forces, Newton's second law, application of kinematic equations, circular motion (frequency and angular speed), and uniform circular motion (with constant centripetal acceleration)."
