Recent Tutoring Session Reviews
"We worked on a set of problems I created for the student to practice using all of the operations with fractions and reducing fractions."
"The student and I worked on his school homework: solving simultaneous equations with three variables. We were able to work on some word problems as well. He did a great job!"
"We covered algebraic equations he was given from his classes. He has a firm grasp on the concepts. He scored very high on his first two tests (100 & 98). I believe that he must ensure that he is following through with all positive and negative symbols in a problem. I gave him no extra practice seeing that he is getting plenty of assignments from his classes."
"This session we covered aspects of confirmatory factor analysis and the interpretation of the many numbers involved in an output of CFA. We also spent some time going over the comments the student's prof made on her last homework. Finally, we reviewed the mediation homework that she was ready to hand in and discussed her conclusions."
"The topic of the day was proportions. The student just had a test on the topic this past week. We did all word problems; some dealing with percents, others dealing with ratios. The focus was on his problem solving ability. The biggest problem we worked on was comparing the cost of a single item from two different companies. He had to find out which company offered the better deal. The notes from his teacher was that he has improved in his acuity since we have started. He loves to talk through problems."
"The session went well today. We mostly covered problems involving rates of change. We talked about how to break a derivative into the product of two derivatives and how that can be used to simplify some problems. I think that after working through the problems, the student got pretty good at the rate of change problems and was able to correctly set up the problems quickly. We also talked a little bit about minimum and maximum points and second derivatives. I think she is doing great, has a good grasp on most aspects of the class, and is good at breaking problems down. We have been going over a few of the trickier types of problems and polishing a few of the more difficult methods of solving problems."
